Kumakua Affordable Housing
Foresight was proud to provide civil engineering design and construction support services for the third phase of the Kumakua Self-Help Affordable Housing Subdivision Phase III in Hawi. Our client, Hawaii Island Community Development Corp., has a long history of providing the Big Island with affordable housing options. Kumakua Phase III created thirty-two new homes for local families in North Kohala. As part of the program, selected applicants provided a significant portion of the labor to construct these homes, which they would one day own and live in themselves, creating a tight knit community of proud first-time owners.
Iki Place Water System Improvements
The Iki Place Water System Improvements Project was created through an Improvement District by the Hawaii County Council to extend the county’s municipal water system to an underserved community in Kailua Kona. With majority funding provided through the US Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development and Rural Utilities program, a Hawaii Department of Water Supply water main was extended to front eighteen lots whose water meters had previously been nearly a quarter of a mile from their respective customers. Fire protection by way of new hydrants, storm drainage improvements and re-paving of the crumbling road which serves as access to all eighteen properties were also included in the list of improvements. Foresight was proud to work alongside Department of Water Supply officials and local residents to design these improvements and provide engineering support during construction.

Kaloko Heights Sewer Main
Foresight provided third party construction observation and owner’s representation services during construction of the Kaloko Heights Sewer Main on Hina Lani, which provided a sewer connection to a new 100-unit affordable housing complex. Foresight provided record-keeping services, construction progress tracking, review and approval of pay applications and coordination between the contractor, project owner, Hawaii County officials and the design engineer to help keep the project on schedule and address problems in the field fairly and efficiently.
Kohala Estates Subdivision
One of many small subdivision projects Foresight has designed over the years, this small agricultural subdivision created seven new lots accessed by a new private cul-de-sac which included a water main, hydrant and service laterals, as well as two storm drainage culverts.
